Loyola University Maryland has named Jim Paquette assistant vice president and director of athletics, University President Brian F. Linnane, S.J., announced today at a press conference at Loyola's Ridley Athletic Complex (watch the press conference). Paquette's appointment takes effect on April 1.
Paquette, who was selected through a nationwide search supported by the Parker Executive Search firm, joins Loyola from Boston College, where he has served as associate athletics director for development since 2002. At Loyola, he will succeed retiring Athletics Director Joseph Boylan, who has been with the University since 1991.

Paquette's appointment comes at a particularly critical time for Loyola athletics, an NCAA Division I, Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference program fielding 18 men's and women's teams. The advancement of athletics is a key initiative of Loyola's strategic plan, and the University will celebrate the grand opening of its 6,000-seat Ridley Athletic Complex on March 13.
Paquette's career in athletics administration dates back to his days as an undergraduate at Providence College, where he worked in the Friars' athletics ticket and fundraising offices. After graduating, he became an assistant ticket manager at the University of New Hampshire. While pursuing a master's degree in sports management at the University of Massachusetts, he worked in the university's football game-day operations and on a research grant from the NCAA on its championship promotions. He joined Boston College in 1994 as a development assistant, and later accepted a series of positions of increasing responsibility within the university's athletic fundraising operations. As associate director of athletics, he also served as administrator for the Eagles' men's and women's tennis and skiing teams.

Paquette, who works closely with Boston College advancement administrators to coordinate athletic fundraising at all levels, has focused his efforts on major gift development and securing endowed athletics scholarships. Boston College has secured more than $211 million in athletic fundraising commitments since Paquette joined the university in 1994, and has set athletic fundraising records in each of his 16 years with the institution. During his tenure at Boston College, the university secured $27 million for the Yawkey Athletics Center, making it the first building on campus to be 100 percent privately funded. Additionally, when Paquette arrived at Boston College in 1994, total cash gifts received by BC Athletics were $2 million; in 2009, more than $17 million in cash was received.
Responsible for the leasing and management of Boston College's 54 luxury suites, Paquette has increased annual suite revenues by 59 percent since 2004. He also led the launch of Boston College's donor-based seating programs for football and basketball, initiatives which have generated $2 million in new gift revenue.
Vice chair of the ACC Men's Tennis Committee and a member of the ACC Student-Athlete Welfare Committee, Paquette is also past chair of the ACC Development Committee. He also serves as the first vice president for the National Association of Athletic Development Directors (NAADD) and has served as an officer and executive committee member the past five years.
Paquette and his wife Erin have two sons, James and Brian.
